Can I Take Notes on My Laptop?

college-students-taking-notes-classroomAs computers, tablets and other forms of electronic media become more and more common and less and less expensive I am having more students who want to use these devices to take notes in class. In the past I’ve always been will to let students take note in whatever format works for them. However, after reading this article “Revising for an Exam? DON’T use a laptop” I’m having to rethink that decision. (Here’s another version of the same information.)

I encourage you to read the entire article but the quick take away is that students that take notes by hand remembered more facts and understood more concepts than those who used a laptop, even though the laptop users took more extensive notes.

What do you think? If you’ve used some electronic tool to take notes do you think is helped or hindered actually learning the material? Let me know in the comments.
